Learn how to make a wheelthrown teapot in this two days workshop with our guest ceramicist Théo Michel . This is a great way to deepen your technique and meet other ceramic lovers in a cosy and friendly space!

During this two days workshop you will learn how to create every part of a wheel-thrown functional tea pot. We will start on Saturday morning with the creation of bodies and then later on during the afternoon with lids, spouts and handles…

Sunday program will be trimming and then composition of the tea pots.

Good to know : Every exercise of this workshop will be taught and made on the potter’s wheel.
In this workshop you will also learn how to throw off the hump or discover new ways to stick and trimm on the wheel, on Sunday.
A special focus on non-dripping and well pouring tea pot will be given.

Different possibilities of lid, lid nesting as well as weight of clay for the main body will be proposed accordingly to the level and the wishes of the practitioner.

As we will make several samples of each tea pot parts, it may allow us to come back with several tea pots at the end of the workshop. (Maximum of two teapots fired per participant)
This class doesn’t include the glazing of your teapots, please book a glazing class here if you wish to glaze your pieces after the workshop.
This class is for intermediate level participant, do not book it if it is your first time on the wheel.

Théo Michel is a French ceramist based in Brussels. Trained in 2017 in series throwing at EMA-CNIFOP in France, he was an apprentice alongside various ceramists in France, such as Raphaël Meyer and Ruben Batterham, as well as in England with Richard Batterham, a student of Bernard Leach.
After working as a production thrower and a throwing instructor, he developed his own method and founded the first throwing training program in Brussels. Théo Michel leads throwing workshops across Europe and Asia.

Programm of the workshop:

  •  Saturday 5th July / 10h-13h : Throwing of the body of the teapot on the wheel
    14h-17h : Making of the lid, spout and handle
  • Sunday 6th July / 10h-13h : Trimming of the elements
    14h-17h : Assembling and composition of the teapot

 

 

Only reservations cancelled 1 month in advance or more full calendar days prior to the start of the course will receive a full refund.

  • Please note that due to limited space in our studio we can’t store your pieces for a long period of time. Therefore your ceramics have to be picked up, or, if a glazing class was booked, has to take place within two months after the creation of your ceramics.
